The Aston Martin DBX: TG’s Super-SUV of the Year

Discover everything about Aston Martin’s incredible award-winning SUV

The extraordinary Aston Martin DBX has been named Super-SUV of the Year in the 2020 TopGear.com Awards. “What’s so great about the DBX is that it feels like an Aston Martin. Charming and distinct from the competition,” said Top Gear upon crowning the new DBX.

The award also confirms the DBX’s status as a true all-rounder, with a huge range of capabilities from sportscar performance, to off-road versatility and everyday practicality. But what are the specific ingredients that make up Aston’s award-winning SUV? Read on to find out…

Dynamic Performance

At the heart of the new DBX is a front mid-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces an exhilarating 542bhp and 516lb ft of torque. That means TG’s new Super-SUV of the Year can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. Plus, with the active valve exhaust system, it has that classic Aston Martin sound to match its performance.

All that power is transported to all four wheels through a lightweight, one-piece carbon fibre prop shaft and an electronic active centre transfer case that can vary drive from 47/53 front-to-rear to 100 per cent rear-wheel drive. The DBX has a true sportscar in its DNA.

What’s more, there are four on-road drive modes, with Sport and Sport+ sharpening the DBX’s already lightning-fast responses. The electronic rear limited-slip differential pushes torque from side to side to combat understeer and the 48-volt electronic anti-roll control system ensures that this remarkable SUV corners flat and level.

Ultimate Comfort

The ability to cross continents with supreme comfort is also part of an Aston Martin’s DNA, and the DBX is no different in that regard.

Its adaptive triple chamber air suspension and nine-speed automatic gearbox can settle into GT mode at the touch of a button, meaning DBX drivers can sit back and relax in its luxurious interior.

Go-anywhere Ability

And, when the road runs out, the DBX will go further than any other Aston in history. Its Terrain and Terrain+ modes allow owners to raise the ride height by up to 45mm, and in Terrain+ mode, the DBX has an incredible wading depth of half a metre. This is true off-road ability and only adds to the DBX’s practicality.

Sumptuous Interior

Close the DBX’s frameless doors and the interior is an oasis of calm. Full grain ‘Caithness’ leather interior trim is standard, as is the 800-watt, 14-speaker Aston Martin Premium Audio System and a panoramic glass sunroof. The easy-to-read instrument cluster is all contained within a 12.3-inch screen, while the DBX’s infotainment is controlled on a high definition 10.25-inch central display.

It has masses of space too, with seating for five and class-leading headroom and legroom all round. Yet another win for the DBX over its rivals.

Customisation and Personalisation

Aston Martin is offering an incredible number of personalisation options for the DBX, so you can tailor the Super-SUV to your exacting needs.

For example, there are no less than 11 optional lifestyle accessory packs. Those include – but are in no way limited to – the ‘Snow Pack’ with tyre chains, ski-racks and a boot warmer, the ‘Touring Pack’ which adds fitted luggage for the vast 632-litre boot, and the brilliant ‘Pet Pack’ with a dog bed, a dirty paw shower unit, a sill protector and custom Aston Martin dog bowls.

There are three different grades of leather and multiple colour choices available for the interior too, as well as many premium material options such as contemporary wood, carbon fibre, natural flax composite and even woven wool felt – the first time it’s ever been used in road car production.
