Twin-Turbo 2005 Ford GT With 840 HP Is A Bit Of A Bargain
As impressive as the current Ford GT might be, many remain critical of the fact that it uses a twin-turbocharged V6 engine instead of a V8 like its predecessors. And that’s where this 2005 Ford GT comes into the equation.
This second-gen example is currently listed up for sale from Street side classics and might just be one meanest and fastest Ford GTs you’re ever likely to see. It has an asking price of $309,995, and while that’s a lot for a Ford GT that is 15 years old, it is only about one-third of the price that 2018 GTs currently command.
Whereas the ’05 GT left the factory with a 5.4-liter supercharged V8, this example ditches the blower in favor of two Garrett GT35-R dual-ball bearing turbochargers. The supercar is also rocking an Accufab monoblade throttle blade, a custom aluminum intake manifold, and a full stainless steel exhaust system. All of these parts were installed by Underground Racing, the same company responsible for the world’s fastest twin-turbocharged Lamborghinis.
According to the listing, the V8 pumps out 840 hp and 720 lb-ft (976 Nm) of torque, significantly more than the stock GT’s 550 hp and 500 lb-ft (678 Nm). It’s also more than the most recent 2020 Ford GT with its 660 hp and 550 lb-ft (746 Nm). Making this 2005 model all the more appealing is the fact its twin-turbo V8 is mated to a six-speed Ricardo manual transmission as opposed to the new car’s seven-speed dual-clutch.
