2021 Corvette Running At Full Production Capacity

2021 Corvette Running At Full Production Capacity

The Bowling Green Assembly plant is running at full production capacity as General Motors works to fulfill all remaining 2021 Corvette orders.

Production at Bowling Green Assembly was put on pause in late May, with the downtime later extended into the first week of June. The facility eventually came back online on June 7th and has been running at full production capacity across two shifts ever since.

General Motors halted new sold orders for the 2021 Corvette on March 25th due to overwhelming demand for the vehicle. It is now focused on fulfilling these remaining orders before switching to production of the mildly updated 2022 Corvette in July. Dealers began accepting orders for the 2022 Corvette on July 1st.

GM has experienced recurring issues with regard to C8 Corvette production. The sports car was originally slated to enter production in December of 2019, but its arrival was delayed until February of 2020 as a result of the 2019 UAW labor strike. The COVID-19 pandemic caused further production woes, while subsequent parts shortages resulted in further production cuts throughout the 2020 and 2021 calendar years.

The 2022 Corvette introduces a new IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, which pays homage to the Corvette C8.R race car’s dominant performance in the 2020 IMSA sports car championship series. The 2022 Corvette also adds new equipment, including a low – profile rear spoiler, a Z51 design front splitter for non-Z51 models and three new exterior colors in the way of Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine, and Amplify Orange Tintcoat.

The 2022 Corvette will continue with the same naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine has received revised engine management calibration and a retuned Active Fuel Management system for 2022, however, mildly improving its fuel efficiency and emissions.
